This year’s Tokyo International Robot Exhibition was as impressive in it’s size as well as what new robotics products were exhibited.  Most impressive was the amount of coverage the event got in the media.  From The Huffington Post to REUTERS, the media blitz was a big.  Notable entrants inluded:

Kokoro Actoroid Robots

“Actor Androids” developed with the company’s humanoid research robot, the Kokoro line of business service robots are slated for everything from presentation to receptionists duties.

Kawada Industries Nextage

The Nextage humanoid industrial robots by Kawada was a reflection of a lot that was available at IREX, in terms of broad adoption of humanoid types machines.  The Nextage is set to outperform people working solo, or in groups.  Nextage took center stage when it opened IREX.

Eager’s Eco Friendly Robots

As reported by the company Eager,  ‘D+ropop’ is the most eco-friendly robot as it is created by combining the robot mechanism with corrugated cardboard.  Meant for display purposes, they are recyclable cardboard robots to work as mannequins that show off clothing in retail display spaces.

Kondo Kagaku Co’s KHR-2HV

A robot kit developed by Kondo, the KHR-2HV has been successful at gaining the attention of kit enthusiasts.  Robot fighters are using the KHR as basis for new designs, like the Black Tiger Neo.

Yaskawa Electric’s MOTOMAN

Another promising humanoid industrial robot, the Motoman SDA 10 is built for dexterity and exceptional articulation.  Flying off the robot shelves, the Motoman is working on projects from manufacturing to menial paper work.

Robo-Garage ROPID

If I have to name an absolute favorite from IREX, it would have to be ROPID by Tomotaka Takahashi from Robo-Garage.  Ropid runs, jumps, and walks all at voice command.  I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this creative additon from Tomotaka soon.  All I can say is that I WANT ONE.

We’ll be posting more about IREX and other upcoming robot conferences and shows soon.  Please come back for more.
